Never give out your security code to strangers.

One scam that has been going on for years seems to be picking up. Someone calls and says they are from your credit card company and they think there has been a phony charge to your account. They want to issue you a credit.

They know your account number, but they ask to verify that you have your card by giving them your address and the three digit security code on the back of the card. This is the code you often use when you buy things on the internet.

Once they get that code, they use it just the way you would and charge something to you account. They probably got your number from a merchant where you charged something, and with the secuirty code they can charge freely over the internet.

If anyone calls you and asks for your security code tell them you will call them back. If they say they are from your credit card company use the number on the credit card.
