Democrats may make college borrowing a bit cheaper.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Democratic Congressional Leaders intend to reduce college costs when they take control of Congress next January. Among the proposals under consideration are cutting interest rates in half on some student loan, allowing educational tax deductions for families earning as much as $100,o00 a year, and an expansion of the Pell grant program for lower income families.

The 2006 Republican Congress lopped $12 billion from student lending programs as part of their deficit reduction program.
